Issues and Uncertainties — Areas to Monitor This Chart plots issues and events important to the commercialization of the technology. By plotting the issues or events by uncertainty versus impact, the analyst can demonstrate the importance of following and evaluating some areas more than others. High-impact and low-uncertainty issues and events are most likely to have a significant impact on commercialization of the technology. Those of highest impact and uncertainty are wild-cards that clients should keep an eye on just in case something occurs to shift position toward the low-uncertainty zone. These wild cards are areas of high opportunity but also high risk. Issues and events occurring in the low- and medium-impact zones are more run-of-the-mill, important enough to be aware of, but providing companies less opportunity for commercial impact, albeit at less risk.
