About This Report

Issues and developments affecting the future of learning and eLearning are of interest to the Learning-on-Demand (LoD) program, as are methodologies and conceptual frameworks that improve our understanding of these future issues. For these reasons, we had great interest in the eLearning International conference, which Scottish Enterprise held in mid-February 2004 in Edinburgh, Scotland. (See Table 1 for a list of selected participants.) The conference, which drew some 250 people from around the world (with most from Europe and particularly the United Kingdom), focused on the so-called Edinburgh scenarios, which lay out alternative visions of the future of eLearning.

This report draws on many of the presentations at the conference and places them in the context of the four Edinburgh scenarios. We also offer our comments and observations, with relevant references to LoD reports, LoD Bulletins and LoD meeting topics.
