Signals (and Patterns) of Change
We highlight new signals of change in every issue of Scan Monthly. Three examples of recent signals of change are "Engineering Affective Consumer Experiences," "Conspicuous Conservation," and "GPS: The Emerging Business-Model Enabler."
- Engineering Affective Consumer Experiences. In order to differentiate products and build strong connections with users, companies and their product developers are exploring affective or emotional components in products and services that go well beyond the traditional branding appeal to consumer emotions.
- Conspicuous Conservation. The rising price of oil has reached a point sufficient to force most segments of society to embark on a forced march of energy and resource conservation. What was once conspicuous consumption will become conspicuous conservation—out of necessity rather than choice.
- GPS: The Emerging Business-Model Enabler. GPS capabilities on cell phones will become a formidable business-model enabler. Location data will be a tag to which sophisticated location-based services will attach a wide range of parameters, associated data, and services.
