About the Meeting
This second face-to-face meeting of the Virtual-Worlds Consortium for Innovation and Learning (VWC) focused our attention on one of the application areas that have generated considerable interest in the VW industry, and especially among enterprise users: Collaborative work. Our intention was to hear from some major players—such as IBM, Cisco and Intel (three of the most prominent users of VWs today)—as well as to hear from some of the key VW technology developers about what they offer today and will offer in the future to enable enterprise users to engage in collaborative work in VWs.
The afternoon presentations focused on current and future VWs technologies, and we heard from Qwaq, Forterra and Sun Microsystems (about its Wonderland platform). During the final part of the meeting we had breakout roundtable discussions giving all attendees a chance to express their views and opinions on key issues and trends and their business implications in two application domains: Work, and learning and training.
